Michael Vick deserves punishment, but 2 years??!

This sentence is way too harsh. Two years -- some people doing really nasty things like selling drugs or cheating people out of their lifesavings don't get jail time. This is insane, if you ask me.

A hefty fine plus six months and community service. That's more in line, I think.

Perhaps he knows that he'll get out in a few months. I hope so.

I could be wrong, but I surmise the punishment goes beyond the actual crime, and extends almost as a warning to the culture itself. You could say he has been used as an example or scapegoat to this growing underground movement.

It's crazy how much dog fighting, particularly with pit bulls, has grown recently. There are even numerous gangs around the country have gotten heavily involved (strange, huh?).

But like I said- I think in light of all the public outrage, his celeb status, and the growing trend of this activity, the circumstance led them to really nail him. Even the Falcons organization is going after him to get their money back.

Regardless of how anyone feels about the sentence, they've got to admit he's fallen hard.

I don't think the issue is whether Michael Vick got too much jailtime, I think the issue is that the other people (the dealers and the con artists) aren't getting enough.

I think a year is fine for dogfighting, but when you throw in the fact that little kids look up to Michael Vick, maybe the sentence should be harsher.

I agree with both -- Vick has fallen hard (with good reason) and that the more serious crimes are getting lenient sentences.
