The Worst Gadgets

My goodness, my goodness. Just when you thought that things couldn't possibly be worse than a robotic rubber monkey head, you're proven wrong.

There are some real doozies in this list, but my favorite has to be the USB Audio Turntable. And, I still have quite the collection of vinyl to convert! It's something akin to using a 100 dpi scanner to preserve the nuances of the Mona Lisa to me. Useless.

Frozen Head
Frozen Head,

Michael Hodge has some great photos of Frozen Head State Park and environs (near LIberty, Tennessee), including a number of incredible close-up shots of flora and fauna of the area.

Great viewing, and thanks for sharing, Michael!!

Reklame Saab 900 Turbo (1980)

This is the coolest Saab 900 Brochure ever.

Check the color of the car!!

The Lane Motor Museum, Nashville

I've only recently become aware of Mr. Lane's collection on display right here in my hometown of Nashville, Tennessee.

Over 200 cars, most of them rare and European. For example, the Lane Motor Museum has the largest collection of Czech-built cars outside of Europe! A few Saabs in there for good measure, and I really love those old Citroëns.

He has a few interesting prototypes that certainly have some history, and a propeller-driven car built in France in the 1920's!

I'm going to have to pay Mr. Lane a visit very, very soon!!

If liking this is wrong, I don't want to be right

Apparently, a few miscreants out street racing with stollen stuff in their cars are not getting their vehicles back -- a judge ordered them crushed.

I've never seen so much rice squeezed in my life! I love it!

When they say it tastes bad, you'd better listen

I've had a minor chest cold that simply will not leave me. Normally, I'll take the Robitussin original or the generic equivalent. The primary medication is Guaifenesin, an expectorant that has been in use for years.

Well, Publix was out of my normal brand when I stopped in last week. However, they had another brand, Buckley's, that I had never used, but figured that it was the same thing; after all, it was 100mg of Guaifenesin per dose just as I was used to with the other stuff.

Wrong.

Buckley's tastes like menthol fish oil with a dash of red pepper and a hint of Pine-Sol. It is awful; that cough syrup has one of the worst tastes that I've ever even dreamed of. It's so bad that the Buckley's people are actually proud of it.

Just two words: never again.

The Southeastern Conference - the premier college football conference

Pat Forde is pretty opinionated, but, boy, this column has to hurt Ohio State and Big Ten fans.

He rips OSU for their cushy schedule -- I guess the Bog Ten ain't what it used to be. He also gives them grief for being unable to beat SEC teams in the post season:

If you've ever seen lions maul a water buffalo, you've seen the last two title games. You've seen a fierce pair of SEC teams -- Florida last year, LSU this year -- blow the vulnerable Buckeyes back to the Bratwurst Belt by a combined 41 points. You've seen the best of one league flex, and the best of an inferior league collapse.

In a final insult, he adds this little gem to his screed:

And he [Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel] should know not to bring that weak Big Ten stuff back to the BCS National Championship Game again next year.

Ouch.
